Do Not Be Spreaders Of Slander: Rosmah

KUALA SELANGOR, Oct 31 2009 (Bernama) -- Students of institutions of higher education should hold fast to intellectual sincerity in evaluating and understanding issues and use their wisdom in disseminating information so as not to become spreaders of slander or libel.

Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel) chancellor, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, said she wished to see dynamic leadership by graduates to be a major input in the country's success.

"Do not be influenced so as to not display characteristics of being educated people. We want graduates to be on solid ground and not stray from the true path. Pointless actions should be avoided," she said in her speech at the Fourth Unisel Convocation at the Dewan Utama UNISEL Kampus Bestari Jaya here Saturday.

Also present was Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

2,043 graduates would be receiving their degrees and diplomas over two days beginning today.

Rosmah, the wife of the Prime Minister, said efforts to produce citizens would not be productive if only some graduates were knowlegable and informed.

"There is a difference between education, knowledge and wisdom. Time and experience will mature graduates to face the reality of life out there," she said.

"Graduates may put import on the label but the qualification places importance on attributes, attitudes and merits," she said.

She said in that regard graduates not only needed to meet job market demands but needed to be aware of and contribute to developing people, religion and the country, all of which determine the excellence of a nation.

Earlier, Datuk Dr Anuar Masduki was appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of Unisel.

At the ceremony , Hazeeq Hazwan Azman from the Biotechnology and Biology Faculty was named as the winner of the 2009 Chancellor's Award while Azuwa Kasnan from the Information Technology Faculty was named as the winner of the 2009 Chairman's Award.

Hazeeq Hazwan and Azuwa respectively received RM5,000 and RM3,000 and a certificate each.

The Unisel convocation also created history with the graduation of a pioneer batch of 24 graduates with a Digital Graphic Design Art undergraduate degree with honours and 35 students with diplomas.
